2023 Breednet Favourite Foal and The Winner Is!

Tara Madgwick - Friday December 22

Firstly we’d like to thank everyone for taking an interest in our foal gallery and supporting their favourites with a very close battle between the top three entries from Yulong in Victoria and Holbrook Thoroughbreds and Torryburn Stud in the Hunter Valley, but there can only be one winner.

When Georgia Giddens started her night watch duties on September 1 at Holbrook Thoroughbreds, she never dreamed the foal born that night would be voted 2023 Breednet Favourite Foal of the Year!

2023 Breednet Favourite Foal! St Mark's Basilica filly from Real Charm.

She snapped a picture of Real Charm and her filly by 2021 European Horse of the Year St Mark’s Basilica (FR) just after she was born and when Holbrook Thoroughbreds owner Julie Harris saw the picture it was sent straight into the Breednet Foal Gallery.

“Georgia was surprised to have her photo included in the Breednet photo competition and has been thrilled with the response,” said Julie Harris.

“Real Charm is owned by Peters Investments so the filly will be retained to race and she’s such a lovely type the mare is now back in foal again to St Mark’s Basilica.”

A stakes-winning daughter of Reset and a full sister to Group II WA Derby winner Mystic Prince, Real Charm is already the dam of stakes-placed nine time winner Real Danger.

St Mark's Basilica (FR) is a champion son of Siyouni, click for more info.

St Mark’s Basilica is now headed back to Coolmore in Ireland after completing his second season at stud in Australia.
