Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Monday February 26

There were four heats for juveniles at Warwick Farm on Monday morning that featured two winners for first season sire Microphone and the reappearance of talented Zoustar colt Growing Empire, who was sent back to the trials following his debut second at Randwick last month when he blotted his copybook with a spectacular dipsy doodle just after the winning post.

The Ciaron Maher trained Growing Empire took fright on race day at the post, shying violently to the outside and ploughing through the running rail leaving Jason Collett behind. His behaviour today was uneventful with a professional effort to lead and kick clear for an easy win over a pair of colts by Too Darn Hot (GB) and this time Jason Collett stayed in the saddle!

Muswellbrook trainer Todd Howlett obviously has a good opinion of Microphone filly Mic Drop, who won her heat in the quickest time of the four two year-old heats and it was her second trial win after beating subsequent metro winner Totoka at the Wyong trials last month. Given a relatively quiet trial in third place was Inglis Millennium winner Fully Lit.

Mic Drop was a $300,000 Inglis Classic purchase from Lime Country Thoroughbreds for her trainer and was the most expensive yearling by her sire at that sale. She is the first foal of a placed sister to Group II winner Forever Loved from the Tristalove branch of the famed Eight Carat (GB) family.

Microphone made it a  double when the Matthew Smith trained filly Broadcast Boogie produced her best effort to date at her third trial to score a stylish win, although still green when asked to extend.

She was a $200,000 Magic Millions purchase for Mystery Downs from the draft of Yarraman Park, who will offer her yearling half-brother by Hellbent at Inglis Premier as Lot 318. They are from unraced Camelot mare Jive Dancing (GB), who is closely related to imported Australian dual Group I winner Russian Camelot.

Also winning a trial was the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained colt I Am Invincible colt Anode, who was given a tick over trial following his third in the Listed ATC Lonhro Plate.
