Exceed and Excel Retired from Stud Duty

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday March 6

Darley have today announced the retirement of their champion sire Exceed and Excel, who covered his final book of 56 mares last spring.

Winner of the Group I VRC Newmarket Handicap back in 2004, Exceed and Excel has been with Darley for his entire stud career moving successfully between both hemispheres to build a formidable record.

Exceed and Excel has earned a well deserved retirement from stud duty.

The rising 24 year-old son of Danehill (USA) has sired 215 stakes-winners worldwide with 70% winners to runners and 8.4% SW to runner highlighted by 18 Group I winners, 12 of those foaled in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Champion Australian Sire of 2012/2013, Exceed and Excel was noted for his success with two year-olds siring eight G1 winning 2YO’s including Golden Slipper winner Overreach and Blue Diamond winners Earthquake and Reward for Effort.

Darley will look to continue his sireline with Group I winning sons Bivouac and Microphone both on the roster in NSW, the former with his first yearlings selling in 2024 and the latter with his oldest progeny now two year-olds.

Exceed and Excel has 12 entries for the upcoming Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale that are sure to be in hot demand.
