Gold Coast Double for Spirit Of Boom

Mark Smith - Saturday December 9

Sent off an odds-on favourite when making her career debut at Toowoomba on November 18, Holdin' My Own gave connections a quick reality check on the vagaries of racing when she began awkwardly, which forced the saddle to shift back whereupon she gave a buck jumping exhibition and trailed home last.

Sent back to the trials by the stewards, the Les Ross-trained filly was on her best behaviour when winning her trial at Deagon and was given the green light to continue her prep.

The daughter of the high-flying first season sire Spirit Of Boom was installed the early favourite to break her maiden over 900 metres at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

However, sustained support for the Unencumbered filly Brave Jewel resulted in Holdin' My Own drifting out to $3.50.

Not the best to begin for Nathan Day, Holdin' My Own quickly gathered up speed to lead them up.

She held on bravely down the straight to defeat Victory Liner (Foxwedge) by three-quarters of a length with Majikkutesa (Testa Rossa) a neck back in third.

Purchased by her trainer for $20,000 out of the Eureka Stud draft at the Magic Millions March Yearling Sale, Holdin' My Own  (pictured as a yearling ) is the fourth winner from as many foals out of the Made Of Gold mare Imanoremiss, a half-sister to the popular, dual stakes-winner, Magic Marvo (Bite The Bullet).

Holdin' My Own became the fourth winner from the first crop of Spirit Of Boom who did not have long to wait for his fifth.

It came on the same track later 35 minutes later when first starter Bold Aurora did the right thing by favourite-backers in the Brisbane Isuzu 2YO C&G Maiden (900m).

The Garnett Taylor-trained colt seemed to channel the winning effort of Holdin' My Own.

After a tardy start, Bold Aurora quickly gathered speed under Gary Geran to take up the running.

But these Spirit Of Boom's don't look like speedy squibs, with Bold Aurora showing plenty of fight to defeat Falvelino (Falvelon) by a length with Line Up Girls (Sizzling) one and three-quarter of a length back in third.

A homebred for the Cleary family, Bold Aurora is the second foal and first winner out of the Spinning World mare Arctic Eclipse whose dam Zero Lass (Danzero) is out of the imaginatively named Fluoro's Sister (Rory's Jester) a stakes-placed sister to Listed Bounding Away Stakes winner Fluoro.

Bold Aurora becomes the fifth winner for Eureka Stud's Spirit Of Boom (pictured) who is setting a cracking pace in all categories on the first crop leaderboard.

Spirit Of Boom has 10 lots on offer at the Magic Millions and seven at the Inglis Classic
