New Group Two Winner for Artie Schiller

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday December 27
Aquis Farm's high class shuttler Artie Schiller (USA) featured in the US on Boxing Day with a new Graded winner after Bowies Hero took out the $200,000 Grade II Mathis Brother Mile at Santa Anita.

Artie SchillerTrained by Philip D'Amato, Bowies Hero was already a stakes-winner in Listed company but produced a career best performance to win the one mile feature by half a length.

"Phil D'Amato did a great job in getting him ready," said winning rider Desormeaux.

"I don't deserve the credit, he does. This horse had fire in his eyes. He refused to lose. At the sixteenth pole, I didn't think we had a chance, but he saw that tail in front of him and he mowed him down."

The three year-old colt has won five of 11 starts banking over $380,000 in prizemoney, this latest win capping a very successful year for Bowies Hero.

"I loved what Kent was doing," said Phil D'Amot.

"He was saving ground and sitting in behind a couple other horses. He bided his time and rode him very confidently and was able to push by that horse. I'm very proud of this horse... very proud of the way he finished up the year."

Bowies Hero is one of 39 stakes-winners for Artie Schiller and is from Sky Mesa mare Remembered, a half-sister to Group II winner and sire Mint Lane (USA).

A Group I winning son of El Prado, best known for leaving Champion Australian 3YO Colt Flying Artie, Artie Schiller has three yearlings for Magic Millions, two for Inglis Classic and five for Inglis Premier.
