Dual Oaks Winner Sells for $1.6million, Star Producer for $1.15million

It’s rare enough for any filly to win more than one G1 Oaks event and rarer still for them to be offered at public auction, so the appearance of Satono Aladdin (Jpn) mare Pennyweka (NZ) at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale produced some fiscal fireworks before she was knocked down to Panthalassa Syndicate (Yulong) for $1.6million.

Pennyweka sold for $1.6million.

The star performer for her sire Satono Aladdin, a son of Deep Impact, Pennyweka shot to fame winning the Group I New Zealand Oaks last year and then followed up to win the Group I ATC Australian Oaks at Randwick and was offered as a racing and breeding proposition, although she has not raced this year.

Shortly after Pennyweka was sold it was the turn of proven producer Pinocchio to go through the ring for Tyreel Stud.

Pinocchio sold for $1.15million.

The dam of Everest winner Classique Legend and Group II winner Aethero, Pinocchio was offered with a positive test to I Am Invincible and sold for $1.15million to Bill Pearce’s Bromfield Park, who were making news earlier today for breeding and selling the Breednet ‘One to Watch’ Changing Colours, read about her here.

A grey daughter of Encosta de Lago, Pinocchio is a sister to champion miler Racing to Win and has been a successful stakes producer as well as a big winner in commercial terms for Tyreel Stud. They sold a So You Think colt from her at Inglis Easter in 2020 for $1.1million and an I Am Invincible filly in 2022 for $2million.
