Grand-dam of Epsom Oaks Winner in Australia

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday June 4

Aga Khan Studs had cause to celebrate last weekend when their lightly raced Dubawi filly Ezeliya won the Group I Epsom Oaks at just her fourth start, but there would also have been excitement on the other side of the world as her grand-dam Eytarna is now in Australia.

Read about Ezeliya and her Oaks win here.

Yulong have been purchasing elite mares all over the world for a number of years now and back in 2021 at the Goffs November Breeding Stock Sale they bought the top lot Plying (dam of multiple Group I winner Alcohol Free) for €825,000, but another of their acquisitions at the same sale was stakes-placed Dubai Destination mare Eytarna for €330,000.

A half-sister to four Group I winners, she was offered by Aga Khan Studs as a proven producer having already left stakes-winner Eshera and Group II winner Eziyra, who has now gone on to produce Ezeliya.

Eytarna was bought by Yulong for 330,000 euros in 2021.

18YO Eytarna is now at Yulong in Australia having arrived here last year in foal to their young Lope de Vega stallion Lucky Vega (IRE) to Northern Hemisphere time.

Eytarna produced a filly from that mating in April this year and her overall produce record reads eight named foals, seven to race for six winners, four of them Black Type horses.

Yulong have a some exciting young sires on their roster for this spring along with established champion Written Tycoon, so it will be interesting to see who gets chosen as a partner for the lovely Eytarna.
