Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Friday June 21

There were six heats for juveniles run at Rosehill on Friday morning with some promising youngsters by first season sires including Tassort and Exceedance, plus we had the first look at the unraced full sister to former star Te Akau star mare Avantage, a nine time Group I winner.

A homebred for Sir Owen Glenn’s Go Bloodstock, Avantage’s little sister Ti Amo Tanto has been taken along quietly by trainer Chris Waller and was given a patient ride in a strong trial won by promising Trapeze Artist filly Elegant Artist.

A full sister to Group III winner Facile, the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou trained Elegant Artist was placed from two starts earlier this year in good company behind classy fillies Rag Queen and Chateau Miraval and did a nice job to win her trial narrowly over blueblood Snitzel filly O’Invincible, the first foal of dual Group I winning sprinter Viddora. Covering ground and steaming home for third was Ti Amo Tanto.

Chris Waller has a very nice Extreme Choice 2YO colt in the stable in Emirate and has another filly by the same sire showing promise in Extremely Hardys. Given two quiet trials in December and February, she’s been asked to do a bit more this preparation and was second at her first trial back 10 days ago and then won today under a hold.

A $300,000 Inglis Easter purchase for G Mulcaster / Chris Waller Racing from Newgate Farm, Extremely Hardys isn’t a big filly, but she does have a big pedigree being a half-sister to stakes-placed Remorseless from Killcareless, who traces back to the Monsoon Wedding branch of the Shantha’s Choice family.

Team Hawkes out the polish on Exceedance in his racing days and produced a nice winner for the promising young sire in Brave One, who does look a lot like Dad. He did everything right for Zac Lloyd at his second trial this prep and looked thoroughly professional in  leading all the way to win.

Brave One was a $300,000 Inglis Easter purchase from Vinery for Hawkes Racing and was the most expensive colt by his sire at that sale. He is from Group III winning Northern Meteor mare Runway Star, a half-sister to stakes-winner What You Need f rom the family of Group I winners Wrap Around and Fashions Afield.

The yearling full brother to Brave One sold for $330,000 at Magic Millions this year to Waller Racing/ Mulcaster Bloodstock.

Team Hawkes also produced the two year-old that won by the biggest margin and that was Tassort gelding Mawjood, who had one start earlier this year when finishing sixth in a super strong maiden won by Gatsbys with place-getters Roselyn’s Star and Silmarillion both ending the autumn Group placed. Mawjood stalked the leader and blasted clear to win by five with unraced Kingman colt Delrico and eye-catcher working into second from a long way back.

A homebred for Emirates Park, Mawjood is a half-brother to Group III placed Mayaaseh and two more winners from metro winner Maysoon, who sadly died last year.

Additional winners were: Global Eclipse (Pierata) and Written Gold (Written By).
