A quality packed catalogue for the NZB Ready to Run Sale is now online and in the lead up to the sale we’ll go looking each week for some horses of interest that jump out on pedigree for various reasons.

One of the hottest colts in the country right now is Growing Empire, whose spring has started well with stakes wins at his past two starts in Melbourne setting him on a path that may ultimately lead to the Everest or Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes or possibly both!

The Yulong owned son of Zoustar comes from a prolific Black Type family that has it’s origins in New Zealand and it features in two entries for this sale.

Lot 28 from Prima Park is a Swiss Ace colt from Lady Linwood, a grand-daughter of Golden Sparkle, who is a full sister to blue hen Parfore, the dam of Group I winning sprinters Terravista and Tiger Tees. The fourth dam of this colt Classy Twiggy is the third dam of Growing Empire.

Lot 222 from Riversley Park is a Star Turn gelding from Fastnet Rock mare the Quick One, who has produced four winners already including Group III placed Gin a Tonic. This gelding’s third dam Nishaani is also the grand-dam of Growing Empire.

Shamexpress is one of those quiet achiever sires for New Zealand that can go underestimated, but a brilliant win by his four year-old daughter Grinzinger Belle (NZ) in the Group II VRC Let’s Elope Stakes comes as a timely reminder.

There are six entries for the sale by Shamexpress, all of them colts or geldings, and they include Lot 314 from Pertab Racing that is a three-quarter brother-in-blood to dual Group I winner Covetina Bay. He is the first foal of Chapoutier, a winning Mastercraftsman (IRE) mare that traces back to top class multiple Group I winning filly Nimue.

The 2024 edition of the Ready to Run Sale will take place at the Karaka Sales Centre from 11am (NZT) on 20 & 21 November with Breeze Ups to be held at Te Rapa Racecourse on 21 & 22 October.
