Another Eagle for Pike

Cambridge trainer Tony Pike has enjoyed some remarkable success for Sydney businessman Colin Keane and his horses tagged with the "Eagle" suffix.

Pike has prepared quality gallopers for Keane including Allez Eagle who won 8 races and finished runner-up twice at Group One level, along with another Group One placegetter in Huka Eagle.

Zacinto colt from CastellaniHe added another Eagle for Keane to his stable on Thursday after purchasing Lot 761, a Zacinto colt from the draft of Matamata nursery Valachi Downs.

Pike had rated the colt as his number one choice for the Book 2 session of the National Yearling Sale at Karaka. After visiting him three times over the preceding 24 hours he was set on buying the athletic individual and did so as he went to $120,000 to secure him.

"I was really keen on him and he was my number one pick for this portion of the sale," he said.

"I saw him when he first arrived at the complex and went back twice more to confirm my first impressions.

"He is a lovely athletic type from a sire who has done a great job of late."

Pike indicated he would remain active over the next three days of the sale as he looked to add to the Zacinto colt and two Scared Falls youngsters he purchased during the Book 1 session. – NZ Racing Desk
