Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Monday September 30

There were two heats for new season juveniles at Warwick Farm on Monday morning over 821m and the winners held plenty of interesting with one by first season sire Time to Reign and the other from the family of the man of the moment Broadsiding.

Darby Racing, Bjorn Baker and Rachel King are a winning team and they combined with Time to Reign filly Stormy Reign, who showed plenty of natural pace to race forward and win her heat by more than a length in 49.43 seconds.

Stormy Reign was purchased by Darby Racing for a modest $10,500 through a Magic Millions Online Sale last year at the end of July.

Darby Racing are familiar with her sire as they purchased Time to Reign for $325,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions Yearling Sale in conjunction with Gary Portelli and he ran in their colours winning the Group II ATC Silver Slipper by two lengths beating Tassort.

Retired to Kingstar Farm, Time to Reign covered 95 mares in his first season including Polemos, who is the dam of Storm Reign. A half-sister by Declaration of War (USA) to Group III winner Dawnie Perfect from Group I Queensland Oaks winner Zagalia, Polemos retired to stud unraced and Stormy Reign is her second living foal.

Time to Reign also had a place-getter at the Randwick two year-old trials last Monday in Crown the King and stands at a fee of $9,900.

The second heat for the colts was won by the Matthew Dale trained Spirit of Boom colt Bombay Boom, who did everything right and found the line well to win by a long neck in 49.88 seconds.

Bombay Boom was a $130,000 Magic Millions Book 2 purchase for Kurrinda Bloodstock/M J Dale Racing from the Eureka Stud draft and is the tenth living foal of Group III winning Zabeel mare Steflara, who was 22 when he was born.

Bombay Boom was a $130,000 MM Book 2 purchase.

Steflara has had six to race all winners and her first foal, the Group III placed Redoute’s Choice mare Glissade has achieved fame and fortune as the dam of Group I MRC Thousand Guineas winner Flit and grand-dam of triple Group I winning colt Broadsiding, who won the Golden Rose last Saturday.

Steflara produced a filly last spring by Encryption and has now been retired from stud duties.
