Sebring Sun's Acappella Nova Breaks Maiden in Style

Mark Smith - Wednesday October 2

The progressive Sebring Sun gelding Acappella Nova led home a 1-2-3-4 finish for trainer Tony Gollan in the Eva Air Maiden Plate (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Wednesday.

Taken straight to the front by Angela Jones, the 3-year-old finished the race stronger than anything to defeat the 4-year-old Rubick gelding Turn The Corner by two and a half lengths, with 4-year-old Starspangledbanner gelding Starsonus back in third.

Acappella Nova debuted with a fast-finishing third behind the promising Zoustar gelding Street Chase at Doomben on September 18.

“Unlike his first start, he began well today, and once he did that, it was going to be hard for anything behind him to beat him because he has a good motor,” Gollan said.

“He is pretty raw, which you saw at Doomben. He is a very promising horse, but it is just how much they keep improving. He has all the signs of a nice galloper, and once the penny drops and he grasps what racing is all about, he will be a lot of fun.”

The homebred son of Sebring Sun is the third winner for the winning Encosta De Lago mare In Unison whose dam Racy Smytzer (Zabeel) is a half-sister to the Group II ARC Royal Stakes Stakes and Group II Dulcie Stakes winner Real Success (Success Express), the dam of the Group 1 Queensland Oaks heroine Vouvray, the granddam of Pride Of Jenni.

Purchased on Inglis Digital in 2018 for $6,000, In Unison has a 2-year-old colt by Pariah and visited Sebring Sun at  Glenthorne Park Thoroughbreds last spring.
