Kanga appointed Melbourne Racing Club Chairman

Breednet - Friday October 4

The Melbourne Racing Club (MRC) has announced that John Kanga has been appointed as its new Chairman.

Mr. Kanga takes over the role with immediate effect.

Owners will be big winners out of the appointment of John Kanga as Chairman of the MRC.

In conjunction with this announcement, Nick Hassett, former Vice Chairman, has announced his resignation from the committee.

Mr. Kanga said: "I am honored to?have been selected to this position. I am committed to taking all necessary actions to ensure there is a united board that focuses on the needs of members."

The committee will re-convene in the next week to finalise the remaining Office Bearer positions.

Mr Kanga has campaigned to ensure the mounting yard at Caulfield is returned to its original position in front of the winning post, that racing remains at Sandown, and to scrap plans for a "white elephant" grandstand at Caulfield. At last week's MRC annual general meeting, new Committee members, Sheamus Mills and Cameron Fisher, were elected on platforms that supported those aims.
