Classic Pinhook Winners

Tara Madgwick - Thursday February 15
A record breaking 2018 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale proved the catalyst for pinhook success for many vendors with some impressive results headed by a colt from Stacraft that made more than ten times his original weanling purchase price.

That colt, a son of Rosemont Stud’s veteran sire Starcraft, was presented by Bowness Stud and fetched $340,000 to the bid of Carmel Size Racing on behalf of a Hong Kong based client.

He is the fifth foal of Mrs Bradbury, a three-time winner by Keltrice from the family of Group III winner Sammy the Bull.

Type was the overriding factor in his selection and purchase by Size, who would be well aware of the success enjoyed by Starcraft in Hong Kong where he is the sire of stakes-winning sprinter Blizzard.

The colt was purchased as a weanling at the Inglis Great Southern Sale for just $30,000 from the Woodside Park draft.

Starcraft was seemingly rediscovered  by Victorian breeders last spring covering 101 mares at a fee of $8,800, which was the biggest book he has covered since 2011.

The next best pinhook result was a handsome bay colt from the first crop of Coolmore’s royally bred Rubick out of Bint El Noor that made $200,000 for Sledmere Stud when bought by Yu Long Investments.

He was a phenomenally successful pinhook result for Sledmere Stud having been snaffled at the Magic Millions Weanling Sale last year for just $30,000 from the Emirates Park draft and is from a half-sister to triple Group I winner Shamekha.

Another first season sire in Dissident delivered the third best result, a colt from Future Saint (USA) sold by Newgate Farm for $300,000 to George Moore Bloodstock.

The Dissident colt from was bought by Newgate Farm as a weanling at the inaugural Inglis Chairman’s Sale for $160,000 from the Rothwell Park draft and he too will ultimately head to Hong Kong.
