Inglis Premier – The Sire and Vendor Break Up – Are You a Yulong Fan?

Tara Madgwick - Monday December 9

Inglis have released their catalogue for Inglis Premier featuring 803 lots and there are strong similarities to last year with Yulong the biggest vendor offering nearly double the number of horses in the next biggest draft, while their stallion roster accounts for two of the top four most represented sires.

Yulong will offer 87 yearlings which is 10 more than last year with Widden (with a base in Victoria) and Rosemont again set to play a prominent role along with Blue Gum Farm and Twin Hills Stud is the biggest non-Victorian vendor.

On the score of sire representation we see the same Top 5 sires as last year, albeit reshuffled with unproven sires Hanseatic and Tagaloa on top of the list ahead of proven favourites Shamus Award, Written Tycoon and Toronado (IRE).

Hanseatic is the most represented sire at Inglis Premier.

A fast precocious 2YO, Hanseatic stands at Rosemont Stud and had his first winner last weekend, read about her here.

Yulong young gun Alabama Express is riding high following his first Group I winner in VRC Oaks heroine Treasurethe Moment, but it will be another year before the success his progeny have achieved so far can really be reflected in the sale ring as his 2023 foal crop is his smallest featuring just 56 foals, but the next crop will be a whopper  given he covered 206 mares last spring.

Pierata is another of the young gun Yulong sires, but he only went to Yulong last year so his first Victorian conceived foals are being born this year and there are a lot of them given he was the second busiest sire in Victoria in 2023 behind only Alabama Express covering 191 mares.

Pierata and Alabama Express are likely to fight  it out to be most represented sire at this sale in 2026, but for now Pierata just five entries with 26 of his offspring to be offered at Magic Millions in Queensland where he previously stood for Aquis.
