What Makes a Sire Prospect?

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday February 28
Group I ability – tick, by a leading sire – tick, speed to burn – tick, female pedigree – tick, this colt is now on every stud master's hit list.

Written By - images Grant CourtneyWhen Written By raced away to win the Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes last Saturday in an utterly dominant performance he stamped himself as one of the most desirable colts in training that can actually be purchased for stud duties.

Retained to race by his breeder Neville Begg after passing in shy of his $200,000 reserve, Written By is now a hot commodity that will be sought after by every stud in the country.

His sire Written Tycoon has really come of age in the past five years and being completely free of Danehill blood makes his sons very attractive as having the potential to establish a sireline outside the Danzig family tree.

Written Tycoon already has three sons at stud.

Rich Enuff (Group II winner) has had two seasons, one in Queensland at Glenlogan Park and then one in Victoria for Woodside Park, while Newgate Farm launched Golden Slipper winner Capitalist and Group II winner Winning Rupert last spring.

All three have been super popular with Rich Enuff covering 124 mares and then 114, Winning Rupert covering 147 mares and Capitalist covering a whopping 229 mares.

Clearly there is massive interest in this sireline and Written By is the next horse to write a further chapter in its evolution.

Completely Danehill free, Written By has little Black Type in his immediate family, but what he does have are all the elements to match well with Danehill blood and if you look a little further back you will see champion New Zealand sire Pins.

Written By traces in tail female line to legendary Australian broodmare Humour, a blue hen of the sixties and seventies that left Group I winners Marceau, Zasu and Runyon, plus Group II winner Joy Love.

Written By does tick every box!
