Promising New Winner for Black Caviar

Tara Madgwick - Monday December 23

The racing and bloodstock world were saddened earlier this year following  the passing of undefeated world champion sprinter Black Caviar and her memory was recalled at Wangaratta on Monday when her three year-old filly Persian Caviar made a winning debut.

Trained by Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman, Persian Caviar was well fancied for the 1100m maiden from barrier one with Patrick Moloney to ride and did not disappoint.

Showing the benefit of a good education and several jump outs, the daughter of Written Tycoon sat just behind the leaders and then powered past them to win by a couple of lengths with ears pricked.

It was a soft win and will have her full of confidence for her next assignment.

“It was pretty straight forward from my point of view,” said winning ridder Patrick Moloney.

“It’s lovely to ride a beautiful filly from a champion mare.”

Retained to race by the original Black Caviar owners, Persian Caviar is very closely related to Champion 3YO Colt and now exciting young sire Ole Kirk, who is also by Written Tycoon and is from Naturale, a full sister to Black Caviar.

Persian Caviar is the fifth winner from six foals to race from Black Caviar, who is yet to produce a stakes horse and has a yearling colt by The Autumn Sun to follow and a colt by Snitzel that was born this year before she as euthanized due to laminitis.
