$1.15million Fashion Faux Pas Tops Inglis Digital

Media Release - Thursday January 23

Inglis Digital enjoyed a spectacular start to the new year with broodmare Fashion Faux Pas (USA) realising $1,150,000 late in today’s January (Late) Online Sale.

Offered by Newgate on behalf of the James Harron Bloodstock broodmare partnership - in foal to Snitzel - Fashion Faux Pas sold to Coolmore’s Justin Carey.

Fashion Faux Pas (USA) sold for $1.15million.

Fashion Faux Pas was one of many brilliant results in the January Sale, which ended with a gross of $5.46m.

Coolmore purchased a Snitzel yearling colt out of Fashion Faux Pas earlier this month for $1.7m and Carey was adamant on securing the mare when she became available on Inglis Digital soon after.

“Firstly I want to congratulate James Harron and his partners in Phil Mehrten, Belinda Bateman, the Doyle family and Love Racing on breeding such a stunning colt that we were so excited to buy a fortnight ago,’’ Carey said.

“We’re delighted to have bought this mare off them, a group we’ve had a great relationship with via the likes of King’s Legacy and the very exciting 3YO Espionage.

“We look forward with great excitement to the future with Fashion Faux Pas. We have a high opinion of these fast American mares that seem to have good chemistry with Snitzel and it’s worked with the likes of [G1-winning Inglis Easter graduate] Switzerland so hopefully we can enjoy similar success in the future with this mare.

“If we are lucky enough to have the opportunity to stand City Of Troy, who was crowned Cartier Horse Of The Year last night, at Coolmore Australia next year, I’m sure she would be a fabulous mating for him also.”

Harron was thrilled with the result and said he had no hesitation in offering such a high profile mare on Inglis Digital.

“Our broodmare partnership is a relatively young venture, with our focus always firmly on quality,’’ Harron said.

“We have expanded into the American market, having identified a promising trend in the on-track success of progeny from these mares. Fashion Faux Pas exemplified the vision and standards we strive for. Her Snitzel colt, which sold earlier this year for $1.7m to Coolmore, was undoubtedly one of the standout colts of the year and her Extreme Choice filly foal is also excellent.

“Our strategy will be to continue to turn over these mares, and we are hopeful that Fashion Faux Pas will become a blue hen for Coolmore. They are achieving great success, and their hard work and dedication make it well deserved.

“We have been strong users of the Inglis Digital platform since its inception and while it was new for us to offer such a top-end prospect, this was something we approached with great confidence given the tremendous reach of the platform along with the fact that the buying bench has embraced the concept so warmly.’’

Inglis Digital’s Nick Melmeth was understandably delighted with the result.

“We are incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to promote stock of this quality to the market, so a big thank you to James Harron and his partners,” Melmeth said.

“A huge amount of work has gone into getting to a point where results like this can be achieved.

“I am very proud of the work of the whole Inglis team who contribute to the success of the platform, and in the case of this particular mare, we wish Tom (Magnier) and the whole Coolmore team every success with her.”

Today’s second top lot was the 3YO filly National Code (Written Tycoon), which was purchased by Craig Keiswetter’s Ridgmont South Africa for $230,000.

Offered by her ownership group, National Code is an unraced half sister to multiple G1 winner and Inglis Classic graduate Celestial Legend.

The filly will remain in Australia to race as an autumn 3YO before travelling to South Africa later this year where a decision will be made on whether she races on or becomes a broodmare.

Other significant results in the January Online Sale included the TFI-offered 3YO Can’t Recall One (Reliable Man) – which sold to CJ Thoroughbreds for $145,000 – and fellow 3YO Iconify (I Am Invincible) for Ciaron Maher Racing, which sold to Maree Anderson for $100,000.

Entries are now open for the Inglis Digital February (Early) Online Sale, which will run from January 31 until February 5.

Entries close at midnight next Wednesday, January 29.
