$320,000 for Portland Sky Colt

Tara Madgwick - Sunday February 9

Widden Stud’s first season sire Portland Sky made an early splash at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale on Sunday when his colt from Cailini sold for $320,000.

$320,000 Portland Sky colt from Cailini.

Consigned by Widden, the colt was knocked down to Kurrinda Bloodstock / Doyle Racing and is the second foal of a Sydney metro placed winning daughter of South American Group III winner Estatuilla, a half-sister to Champion Argentinean Sprinter Estambul.

His dam has been back to Portland Sky in both following seasons producing another colt and back in foal again which speaks volumes about the regard for this colt.

It’s the highest price so far for a yearling by Portland Sky, a Group I winning sprinter by Champion Hong Kong Sire Deep Field, who is also the sire of exciting 2YO Field of Play, who won the Group III MRC Blue Diamond Prelude on Saturday.

Antony Thompson was thrilled with the result and excited the colt will remain in Australia and be trained by Nathan Doyle, who has been making news with his unbeaten  three year-old Private Harry, winner of last month’s $3million MM Sunlight Plate.

Portland Sky has 10 entries for this sale.
