$260,000 Written Tycoon Filly Tops MM Adelaide Day 1

Media Release - Monday March 17

A lovely filly by champion sire Written Tycoon topped Day One of the 2025 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale today when selling for $260,000 to international interests.

China's Wei Jiaoqi, bidding online, secured the filly from the Yulong draft after a spirited bidding battle.

Top lot on Monday was this Written Tycoon filly from Saaryaa (IRE).

The filly is the second foal of Saaryaa (IRE), an unraced Dubawi half sister to two international stakes performers.

Further back it is a family that is proven in both hemispheres and is well known to Australians through the exploits of Fiorente and Tom Melbourne.

"This is a sale we've had great success with in the past," Yulong's Harry King said of the top selling result. "Today's result certainly solidified that."

"It again proved that you can bring a good horse here and get good money."

"She is a Written Tycoon through and through and is from a very lovely Dubawi mare."

"He (Written Tycoon) keeps going from strength to strength and he could well have another Slipper winner coming at the end of the week."

"This filly looked very sharp and we obviously saw great results from her in the sale ring."

"Mr Zhang has seen how healthy and vital the Australian breeding and sales market is here and wants to be active in all parts of that and we are getting great results in doing that," King added.

Local trainer Will Clarken teamed up with bloodstock agent Suman Hedge and local businessman and former Adelaide Crows Chairman Rob Chapman to secure the second top seller earlier in the day for $240,000.

The So You Think colt from Miss Otto sold for $240,000.

The colt, the highest priced of his sex today, is a brother to Peltzer and was offered by Mill Park Stud.

"He's a beautiful colt, just a lovely, well balanced horse," Clarken's Racing Manager Lachie Weekley said moments after the gavel fell. "He has a lovely So You Think head on him and he looks to have a lot of class."

"We tend not to rush our young horses, it's a cliche to say but we'll give him plenty of time."

"Mill Park Stud is such a fantastic nursery, Chris Watson and the team down there do such a good job and the stats are just phenomenal."

"They've nearly got the alphabet of Stakes winners, which speaks for itself."

Across the day over $6.8 million changed hands on 139 lots sold at an average price of $49,162, clearance rate of 73 per cent and a increased median from last year of $40,000.

"The day started quite slowly but that had a lot to do with where the numbers fell today," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said. "The quality horses picked up as the day went on."

"The clearance rate and the competition built as the day went on. All in all - with a 73 per cent clearance and an average of almost $50,000 - they're reasonable numbers and something to build on tomorrow."

"There's plenty of nice horses still to go through the ring and there's a lot of people who have still got money in the pockets."

"Whether or not you're looking at the passed in lots from today or the horses tomorrow - there's so much opportunity there."

"I can see the sale building upon what today was and ending with an acceptable clearance rate. The vendors are really trying to meet the market."

"China was strong today. Also Hong Kong and New Zealand. But also across all the states, in particular Western Australia and also Victoria and New South Wales. The locals also support their own sale here - it was a great cross section of buyers which we have become accustomed to here at the Adelaide Yearling Sale."

"There was good participation across the board - trainers, traders and end users. From what I heard their lists were stronger on Day Two so hopefully that is the case," Bowditch added.
