Too Darn Hot SW for Legend Racing

Tara Madgwick - Saturday April 19

The colours of Bon Ho and his Legend Racing were in the winner’s circle in the UK overnight with three year-old Too Darn Hot (GB) gelding Glittering Legend taking out the Listed Burradon Stakes (1m) at Newcastle.

Trained by James Fanshawe and ridden by Daniel Muscutt, won two of four starts last season at two and then won first time out as a three year-old at Kempton before stepping up to Black Type company.

He found the line strongly to win by a neck beating the favourite Bowman, a John and Thady Gosden trained son of Kingman.

“We weren't sure what we were taking on today. That was really good,” said James Fanshawe.

“Glittering Legend still hasn't come in his coat but sometimes geldings are a bit like that. He's really tough. He keeps improving and we've always liked him. He's hardy. I'm not sure what the plan will be so we'll go back and have a look.

“Unfortunately geldings can't get into the Royal Ascot races. It depends whether we step him up to mile and a quarter, I hope that will be within his capabilities.”

Australia may ultimately be where Glittering Legend ends up.

Bought for a modest 67,000 guineas from the Tattersalls Sommerville Yearling Sale by Avenue Bloodstock for Legend Racing, Glittering Legend is a half-brother to Group III winner Megallan from stakes-winning Dansili mare Eastern Belle, a half-sister to 2015 European Champion 3YO Colt and Horse of the Year Golden Horn.

Glittering Legend is the 24th stakes-winner for Too Darn Hot, who is set to return to Darley Australia later this year at a fee of $275,000.
