First Stakes Winner for Cool Aza Beel

Craig Tompson - Saturday May 3

Newhaven Park’s Cool Aza Beel produced his first stakes winner when two-year-old colt Cool Archie won the Listed Dalrello Stakes (1000m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Cool Aza Beel

Settling behind the leaders under Martin Harley, the Chris and Corey Munce trained Cool Archie presented strongly between runners at the furlong mark and sustained the effort impressively to beat Torque To Be Sure (Shamus Award) by a neck with Midnight Spirit (Spirit Of Boom) third.

“I was a bit surprised he raced that close,” said Chris Munce.

“I didn't expect him to be there, but he was.

“I could see in the parade ring he was a bit above himself, so he's only going to improve again off this.”

The win takes his record to two wins and a second from six starts with earnings of $229,900.

Cool Archie was a $100,000 purchase for Mick Malone Bloodstock from the Newhaven Park draft at the MM Gold Coast Yearling Sale and races in the colours of popular owner Max Whitby.

He is the best of five winners from six to race for Tale Of The Cat mare Aware, a daughter of Newhaven’s three-time stakes winner, and Group One place Media.

Cool Aza Beel is having a strong season with his first runners, which sees him currently with four winners along with promising stakes placed youngster Cobra Club.

He will stand the 2025 season at Newhaven on a fee of $16,500.
