Tara Madgwick - Monday May 5

A busy set of trials at Randwick this morning saw Group I winning stallion Schwarz win a heat in good style in preparation for a Queensland trip, while on the juvenile front there were also a couple of carnival aspirants.

Farnan has some classy colts running for him this season in King of Pop and North England with the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Farnicle shaping as another. He won what looked a strong maiden at Randwick on March 26 and was having his first run along since then.

Farnicle found the line well for Regan Bayliss to win by half a length and will take benefit from the hit out as he did sweat up quite a bit.

Farnicle is the first foal from Group I New Zealand Oaks winner Jennifer Eccles, who was bought by Kia Ora Stud for $800,000 on Gavelhouse to go to Farnan.

He made $600,000 at Inglis Easter when bought by Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott / Kestrel Bloodstock and Kia Ora remain in his ownership group along with TFI and a large group of stable clients.

$1.75million Snitzel colt United States has had three starts in good company with his best effort a second placing and was last seen running fourth to Skyhook in the Group III ATC Pago Pago Stakes.

The Chris Waller trained colt was ridden along by James McDonald to find the line and win his heat from stablemate Master of the Air, who also looks a talented type by Dundeel. He looked very green when fifth at his only start in an 1100m maiden won by King of Pop and could jump out of the ground this time around.

Also in action were a couple of unraced youngsters to impress.

Cruising to the lead under Rachel King, Exceedance filly Change My Address was always travelling easily and kept going strongly under no undue pressure to put over three lengths on the opposition.

A $15,000 buy for Cross Park from Sledmere at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale, she was re-offered at Magic Millions Gold Coast but didn’t make reserve and races in the ownership of her trainer John Sargent. She is the first foal of Liberata, a winning half-sister to Group II winner Jessy Belle.

The runner-up Majestic Legend also caught the eye getting home strongly under little pressure from well back.

By Wootton Bassett (GB) out of Elegant D’Oro, the Les Bridge trained filly was a $265,000 buy from the Inglis July (Early) Online Sale in 2023 then made $340,000 to Legend Racing/Avenue Bloodstock from Newgate Farm at Magic Millions Gold Coast.

It was her third trial, first this preparation and she’s indicated talent each time without winning.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Justify (USA) gelding Just Legendary was impressive with a strong finishing win at his first trial of this new campaign, having trialled initially in January where he was pretty plain.

From a half-sister to Western Australian stakes winner Darlington Abbey, he was a $900,000 buy for China Horse Club / Newgate / Go Bloodstock / Trilogy from Sledmere Stud at Inglis Easter.

Not every colt bought by the stallion syndicates can deliver on the dream and the gelding of this youngster looks to have unlocked potential.

Additional winners were: More Revolution (Russian Revolution), Fiery Lass (Hellbent).
