Stakes Potential for Miss Ole

Vinery Stud’s Ole Kirk added an 11th winner to his tally when the Clinton McDonald trained filly Miss Ole scored a stylish win in quick time at Sandown on Saturday.

Having her second race start, Miss Ole improved sharply on her close up debut fifth at Warrnambool in the $125,000 VOBIS Gold Strike last month when she missed the kick.

No mistakes this time and she let down with a good turn of foot to pounce on the leaders and win by the best part of a length for Ben Melham, clocking 56.64 seconds for the 1000m dash with the benefit of a tailwind.

"She's learning all the time. From the run at Warrnambool to today, what she's shown us at home is that she's really come on big time,” said Clinton McDonald.

"We were very confident coming here today. We just thought she had to get it right, and she did. She was still a little bit fierce early, but we knew she'd be very strong late."

McDonald will now look towards the spring for the talented filly, although may consider another run.

"She might have one more start on the 7th of June. I think she's a stakes horse for sure," McDonald added.

"What she shows us at home, I think she keeps improving and getting better. Obviously the stallion is a gun, Ole Kirk. This filly is another one of his progeny that's shown good ability."

Miss Ole was a $360,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Gilgai Farm draft for Clinton McDonald Racing / Shane McGrath and is the second foal and second winner from Tune Doubt, an unraced three-quarter sister to Group III winner Jukebox.

Tune Doubt is a daughter of stakes-winning juvenile Jestatune and is also a half-sister to the dams of Group III winner Bruckner and stakes-winner Beethoven with the family also producing Group I winner Ihtsahymn.

Gilgai Farm sold a Dundeel colt from Tune Doubt at Inglis Easter this year for $600,000 to Yulong and the mare produced a filly last spring by Written by before missing to Ole Kirk.

Standing at a fee of $99,000 this spring, Ole Kirk is currently the leading Australian first season sire by winners, stakes-winners and earnings.
