Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Friday June 13

There was a busy set of trials at Randwick on Friday with eight heats won by juveniles including a couple of unraced youngsters by first season sires Farnan and Anders.

The Michael Freedman trained Farnan gelding Ninja was having his first trial and it showed as he missed the start noticeably, but recovered well for Andrew Adkins to track through in the inside and did a good job to win by a long neck in the Myracehorse colours.

Interesting runner Tuscany, the $1.55million brother to Group I winner Schwarz, who has not raced since finishing fifth in the Group III ATC Breeders Plate as favourite. He trialled twice earlier this year, but did not race and this was his first outing in a new prep.

Ninja was a $380,000 Magic Millions purchase from Segenhoe for MyRacehorse Pty Ltd/Michael Freedman Racing/Gandharvi Pty Ltd/Belmont Bloodstock Agency and is from blueblood winning So You Think mare Impulsive, a daughter of blue hen Procrastinate, so it’s a two dam  pedigree packed with Black Type including G1 winners Laisserfaire and Personal.

The Michael Freedman stable also produced a heat winner for Anders with improving gelding Shredded showing good progress from his first trial last month into his second to surge home and win by half a length.

A $60,000 Magic Millions purchase from Figtree Thoroughbreds for  Dream Thoroughbreds/Michael Freedman Racing, Shredded is a half-brother to two winners from a metro winning daughter of stakes-winner Fuji Dancer tracing in tail female line to blue hen Taiona, the same as WFA superstar Mr Brightside and the world’s best sprinter Ka Ying Rising.

Another promising winner from the Michael Freedman stable and this one an unraced Capitalist filly called Agatha, who was asked for something in this trial and showed a good response to forge clear and win by a length and a half over another nice unraced filly in Little Iris (Too Darn Hot GB).

A homebred for Lightning Thoroughbreds, Agatha is from Group III winning More Than Ready (USA) sprinter Nayelli, who has had five foals to race that have all won with Heman and Calgary Stampede gaining Black Type, so it; snot hard to see Agatha keeping up the good work.

The Waterhouse Bott stable had an interesting winner in the Emirates Park owned filly Saytara, who has had one start which was in the Magic Millions Debut back in January when she ran fifth to Amosu. She was having her second trial this prep and scored by half a length but the real watch horse was the second placed Portofino, who was trucking all the way under a hold.

Trained by Chris Waller, Portofino is a big strapping son of I Am Invincible that runs for the China Horse Club/ Newgate partners and while his 2YO season has largely passed him by that might not be a bad thing.

A $350,000 Magic Millions purchase from Yulong  for Emirates Park/Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, Saytara is bred on the very successful Written tycoon x Snitzel nick and is from a daughter of imported SW Tara from the Cape (USA).

Additional winners were: Gambler (Capitalist), Aligned (Russian Revolution), Ethaara (Written Tycoon), Luskintyre (Capitalist).
