Let's hope life ain't that hard at Canterbury on Wednesday

Stephen Brassel - Wednesday August 9

I'm back from a brief spell and keen to bet tomorrow with a couple at Canterbury, including one we can get $61 about! Plus, there's a four-year-old at Geelong I'm expecting to win on his resumption from a 'bleed'.

The French may say 'life is hard', let's hope that's not the case in the last at Canterbury with a long priced winner.

FUNOON (Canterbury Race 2 No 4)
Small field but no doubt the most interesting race of the day at Canterbury with the expectation we'll certainly be following a few of these in the future. Funoon has only had the two starts and kicked off by storming home to win over 900m at Newcastle earlier in the year. On that occasion she overhauled The Mission, who finished his last preparation with a Group I win in the Champagne Stakes. Funoon missed the autumn but resumed recently at Gosford and turned in a real eye-catcher when charging home for second to Florid over 1000m after giving away too big a start. Won't know herself getting out to 1250m here and if she carries that big finish through over the extra distance I'm confident she'll prove too good.
BET: WIN
ODDS: $4 @ Sportsbet ($4.60 Power Play)

DURE (Canterbury Race 7 No 4)
He's starting to get a bit long in the tooth but this eight-year-old certainly has enough ability on his day to defy the ridiculously long odds on offer for this BM73 contest. Resumed from a spell when running on well for a close third over 1430m at Queanbeyan before up to 1600m and again hit the line strongly when second over 1600m at the Sapphire Coast on a heavy (8). Has won twice third-up and while he'll get back as usual look for him to be charging late and he represents a great bet, especially at the $61 we can get with the William Hill Price Pump .
BET: EACH-WAY
ODDS: $26 @ William Hill ($61 Price Pump), Ladbrokes ($41 Odds Boost), Sportsbet ($36 PowerPlay)

DEMOLITION (Geelong Race 6 No 5)
Resumes off a bleed but has shown plenty in his five starts to date and a recent jump out at Flemington suggests he's wound up and ready to go for this assignment. Won two straight at Gosford and Canterbury charging home on both occasions then trialled really well before his return last time out finishing third in a good class race at Moonee Valley behind Artie Dee Two and Ken's Dream when he had 'the bleed'. He'll be giving major danger Bastille a start but expecting he can get home over the top in the last bit.
BET: WIN
ODDS: $5 @ Bet365
