Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Friday July 4

There were six heats for juveniles at Rosehill on Friday morning and the winners include unraced youngsters by Cool Aza Beel and I Am Invincible, plus a Farnan colt that tried his luck in Group races in the autumn and was far from disgraced.

The Brad Widdup trained Nashville Jack was fourth in the Group II ATC Silver Slipper and fifth in the Group III Canberra Black Opal Stakes at his only runs in the autumn and looks to have come back well. Having his first trial this prep, the son of Farnan scored a stylish three-quarter length win in the Mulberry Racing colours.

A half-brother to a pair of metro winners, Nashville Jack comes from a US female family with plenty of speed up to a mile so might make his mark in the early spring stakes races if he gets his confidence up with a late season win.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained I Am Invincible filly Billabong had one trial last spring behind subsequent stakes-winner Memo and this was her first appearance since then. She was a bit ferocious early, but when she got her way in front settled OK for Rachel King and scored by half a length.

A $500,000 Magic Millions purchase from Yarraman Park for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott/Kestrel Thoroughbreds, Billabong is from metro winning Foxwedge mare Catwalk, a sister to stakes-winner Fox Swift from the family of Group II winners Pay My Bail and White Moss.

Well bred Snitzel filly Feel the Breeze had one run earlier this year when sixth in a metro maiden won by subsequent Golden Slipper winner Marhoona. This was her second trial back and the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou trained filly scored by a length over another nice Snitzel filly in Voting Rights, who had one run when unplaced in the Gimcrack back in the spring and was also having her second trial this prep.

Also keep a close eye on the cerise colours on Bella Wahine, the half-sister by Woootton Bassett (GB) to Fangirl. She close late under a hold and will be interesting to see what she can do on race day.

A $250,000 Magic Millions purchase from Sullivan Bloodstock for Mick Malone Bloodstock, Feel the Breeze is the first foal of Al Naseem, an unraced Hinchinbrook daughter of Group I winner Rewaaya, who is from the Asawir branch of the Easy Date family. What is interesting is that she is by Snitzel from a mare by his three-quarter brother Hinchinbrook- is it a good thing? So far there have been 19 runners that have these two stallions in their pedigree and 12 have won with HK Group I winner Invincible Sage the best of them.

Cool Aza Beel has his name in lights thanks to star 2YO colt Cool Archie and he is the sire of unraced gelding Feazabeel, who won this heat over 1020m for the Annabel and Rob Archibald stable.A big strong horse, he showed good improvement from his first trial and despite settling last, was able to find the line well when he got himself organized and was doing good work to the line to score a narrow win.

Feazabeel is a half-brother to Group II winner Beau Rossa from a winning daughter of stakes-winner Prancelot.

Additional winners were: Steel Knight (Capitalist) and Serpico (Shamus Award).
