Invincible 3YO Wins G3 Winx Guineas

Tara Madgwick - Saturday July 5

The $300,000 Group III Winx Guineas (1600m) at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday featured a big field of 16 up and comers and following the late scratching of favourite Mister Bianco, Angela Jones took luck out of the equation on I Am Invincible gelding The Three Hundred.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, The Three Hundred has shown glimpses of talent with back to back metro wins last spring, but when tried in stakes class he has previously come up short.

Ridden with purpose by Angela Jones, he stepped away well to take up the lead and stayed there. The Three Hundred set sail for home in front and gave a great kick to run the trip right out and win by a length and a half.

“It was great to get support from the Waterhouse/Bott stable. You know their horses are fit,” said Angela Jones.

“Maybe he wasn't putting it all into his races when he gets back so we really made a point that if we can get him away cleanly we'd send him to the front and he'd be winning.

"We were able to do that - lovely and relaxed - and he is a different horse when he doesn't have other horses to look around.

"It was a super dominant win today.”

The Three Hundred was a $400,000 Magic Millions purchase from Yarraman Park.

A $400,000 Magic Millions purchase from Yarraman Park for Trilogy Racing Pty Ltd/Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Racing, The Three Hundred carries the Trilogy Racing colours and has now won three of 13 starts earning more than $300,000 in prizemoney.

Bred by Allam Racing, who retain a share in his ownership, The Three Hundred is the second winner from stakes-winning Smart Missile mare Sassy ‘n’ Smart, a half-sister to Group III winner Mallory from a top class European female family.

Sassy ‘n’ Smart has a yearling filly by Extreme Choice that made $200,000 at Magic Millions this year when offered by Segenhoe Stud and bought by Trilogy Racing/Suman Hedge Bloodstock.

She has a weanling colt to follow by Home Affairs.

The Three Hundred is the 119th stakes-winner for I Am Invincible and is his 16th in Australia this season.

I Am Invincible stands at a fee of $220,000 this spring at Yarraman Park.
