Unbeaten Run Continues For Ole Kirk’s Daughter Ole Dancer

Dane Squance - Saturday July 26

Successful in the Magic Millions SA 2YO Classic at Murray Bridge on debut back in March, the Peter Moody and Katherine Colemen trained filly Ole Dancer resumed at Sandown on Saturday, winning the Senet Gambling Law Experts Handicap (1200m) to remain unbeaten.

Starting favourite in the eight-horse field, premiership leading jockey Blake Shinn looked happy to settle his filly back in the pack with just two behind him after jumping away from the inside barrier.

As the field sorted itself out, Shinn came along the rail to settle on the inside of the Mark and Levi Kavanagh trained Thanks Gorgeous (Peltzer) who was coming off a last start second at the massive odds of 90/1 behind the unbeaten Signature Scent (Written Tycoon).

With Cannyworth (Written Tycoon) leading just ahead of Shystar (Cosmic Force) as the field headed into the home straight, Shinn came across the heels of the leading duo to commence his run.

With the leading duo weakening, Shinn sprinted quickly aboard his filly, working past eventual runner up Thanks Gorgeous to score by a length, with Shystar holding on for third.

As to what level the filly can reach during the spring, Moody was slightly unsure based on the maturity of his filly.

“We’ll tread warily," Moody said.

“I think she’s a lovely filly, and she’s got the quality to be running in spring races. Whether she has the maturity will probably be the question mark.”

“If she got to a race like the Thousand Guineas, she’ll probably get there on one run. She won’t need a lot of racing due to lack of maturity.”

Shinn felt the filly was one to follow for the future.

“She took the gap, and was very brave in doing so, and then knuckled down well.

“She did it on her first run at Murray Bridge – she showed good ringcraft, even though she’s relatively young. She’s got a bright future ahead of her.”

$350,000 Magic Millions Yearling Purchase Ole Dancer

Purchased by Moody Racing from the draft of North at the Magic Millions yearling sale for $350,000, the Werrett Bloodstock-bred and part-owned filly is one of three winners out of the two-time-winning Husson mare Dancers, herself a half-sister to the stakes placed Viennese Star.

From the family of Group 1 winners Redeiner, Snitzel and Private Eye, as well as this season’s Group 3 Black Opal winner King Of Pop (Farnan), Ole Daner is one of 13 first crop winners for her sire.
