Winning Hat-Trick for Gold Standard 2YO

Tara Madgwick - Saturday July 26

When an unheralded sire produces a Group I winner in their first crop as happened for Sebring stallion Gold Standard it can take a long time for the benefit of that early splash to take effect, but in his case the wait is nearly over and in the meantime Destiny’s Summit is a good reminder as to his merit.

The Brian Gentle trained gelding was easy in the market at Doomben on Saturday despite posting successive wins at Murwillumbah and Beaudesert at his two previous starts.

He settled back in the field and unleashed a big finish for Michael Helyer to zoom up the inside and win the 1110m juvenile contest by half a length.

Destiny’s Summit has won three of eight starts earning over $94,000 in prizemoney for his owners, who include his trainer.

Not offered at auction, Destiny’s Summit is the first of placed Reward for Effort mare Destiny’s Revolt, whose third dam is stakes-winner Century Pike.

Gold Standard stood at a fee of $5,500 for his first four seasons covering small books of mares at the now disbanded US owned Spendthrift in Victoria.

When Sheeza Belter came along in his first crop and won the Group I BRC JJ Atkins in 2022 he moved to Widden Victoria and covered his first bigger book of 124 mares at a fee of $17,600 and that crop of foals will be two year-olds in the spring.

Gold Standard is great value this spring, click for more info.

Given Gold Standard has been in a holding pattern for a long time, his fee this year is now back at $5,500 and with the benefit of his best ever foal crop about to be revealed, savvy breeders will no doubt see the potential for upside.
