Fourteen for Spirit Of Boom

Mark Smith - Sunday April 29

Making her third trip to the races, the Matt Kropp-trained Spirit's Choice found an early lead under Rebecca Goldsbury and despite racing erratically in the straight drew away to win a 1000 metre maiden at Dalby on Saturday by five and a quarter lengths to credit her sire Spirit Of Boom with his 14th first crop winner.

Never a factor at her career debut in the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes at Doomben won by another daughter of Spirit Of Boom, Outback Barbie, Spirit's Choice was favoured to break her maiden at Gatton nine days ago. She missed the start and again race erratically when fourth behind another of the Spirit Of Boom tribe, Supersonic Boom.

Raced by the Wagstaff family after being passed in short of her $40,000 reserve at the 2017 March Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Spirit's Choice (pictured as a yearling ) is the second winner from as many foals out of the Snippetson mare Deb's Choice who has been a regular visitor to Spirit Of Boom.

After missing in 2015 she has a weanling colt by the Eureka Stud stallion and was bred back to him again last spring.

The leading sire of 2yo winners and leading first season sire for individual winners, Spirit Of Boom has had his fee increased from $11,000 to a state record $55,000 at Eureka Stud in 2018.
