€2.3 million for a son of Wootton Bassett

2.3million Wootton Bassett colt from High Celebrity.

The ring was buzzing when it came to the turn of an eagerly awaited son of Wootton Bassett to go under the hammer. Out of the Group winner HIGH CELEBRITY (lot 104), the colt was consigned from Haras des Capucines on behalf of Haras de Fresneaux.

Following a long bidding war, it was M.V. Magnier that had the final say at €2,3 million for the half-brother to the black-type performers FRIENDLY FACE and HIGHBURY, that was bought on behalf of a partnership between Coolmore and White Birch Farm. The well-bred colt hails from the family of multiple Group 1 winners SURFSIDE and FLANDERS.

“He’s a very good-looking colt,” said M.V. Magnier. “Wootton Bassett is a sire that has been very successful. We have his brother at Ballydoyle, and he appears to be a very nice horse. We all liked him very much and are delighted.”

Son of Siyouni makes €1,25 million

A little later in the day, a son of Siyouni out of Cheveley Park Stakes (Gr.1) heroine LIGHTNING PEARL (lot 140) was sold for €1,25 million online to American Racing Corp, a partnership of American owners. Consigned by Tweenhills, the colt is a half brother to Group winner LIGHTNING QUICK and comes from the family of dual Group 1 winner and multiple Japanese Group winner, SATONO CROWN.

“The stallion speaks for himself. He’s been remarkably successful and is a first-class sire,” said Anthony Stroud. “He’ll be trained by Charlie Appleby for Godolphin.”

They also purchased a filly from Flighty Lady for €400,000.

“She’s got a lot going for her,” said the agent. “She’s a daughter of Wootton Bassett that is very well bred and comes from a well-known stud. She’ll also be trained by Charlie Appleby.”
