G1 Empire Rose Goal for $1.1million Fastnet Mare

Tara Madgwick - Sunday August 31

Victorian bloodstock agent Sheamus Mills is known for his good record with expensive fillies and $1.1million Inglis Easter purchase On Display showed she was in line for a good spring campaign when charging home to win at Caulfield on Saturday.

First up from a spell in the Benchmark 78 event over 1400m, the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr trained daughter of Fastnet Rock had top weight of 60.5kg with punters sending her out as favourite.

Ridden by Ben Melham, she chimed in with a well timed run and forged clear to win by more than a length.

A Listed winner at Morphettville back in May, On Display has the overall record of three wins from nine starts with prizemoney topping $200,000.

“She's a good mare and she is in for a good campaign. I was happy to kick off there and I think from here we go to the Let's Elope (G2 ) in two weeks, 1400 to keep the edge on her,” said Michael Kent Jr.

"There's a big circle around the Empire Rose (G1). The obligation is to get the Black Type all the time, but this was just a nice kick off point here.

"She's a very smart mare, I've never underestimated her. She should have won the Group 2 in Adelaide and (if she did) I would not have run her again, but I just felt the owners were a bit short on what she should have achieved, so hence the Listed race over there."

On Display was a $1.1million Inglis Easter purchase.

Purchased by Sheamus Mills Bloodstock for $1.1million from the Lime Country Thoroughbreds draft at Inglis Easter, On Display was the highest priced yearling by champion sire Fastnet Rock sold in 2023.

Bred by Grahame and Linda Huddy’s Peachester Lodge, On Display is a half-sister to Group I winner Media Sensation and is the second stakes-winner among four winners from four foals to race from High Chaparral (IRE) mare Different To.

A half-sister to Group I winner Dorabella, Different To has a 2YO colt by Too Darn Hot (GB) and after missing to Extreme Choice has foaled this spring producing a filly by Anamoe.
