Are You Sending a Mare to Cogburn?

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday September 10

Book 1 of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale concluded on Tuesday with the rise of exciting young sire Not This Time as a big player on the world stage well and truly illustrated with 22 of his yearlings selling at an average $805,682.

G1 winner Cogburn (USA) is the first son of Not This Time to go to stud and he is in Australia this spring!

Up until this year, few Australian breeders would have been interested in the doings of Not This Time, but with his record-breaking Group I winning son Cogburn (USA) standing at Widden this spring, eyes are now on the prize.

The third leading sire by average at Keeneland September Book 1 behind only Gun Runner and Flightline, Not This Time had six yearlings in total sell for $1million or more and four of them came during the second session of Book 1.

His best result in session two was a stunning colt from Wembley that fetched $1.7 million for Taylor Made Sales when knocked down to Pedro Lanz, agent for KAS Stables.

“When I see the physical … the way he behaves in the stall is amazing,” Lanz said.

“This is my favorite colt of all the sale. (Out of a) Bernardini mare, by a hot sire, I’m very excited. This is the one that I really liked, so I’m very happy. I (said) ‘Let’s go all in.’ I was ready to go to one more.”

The colt is the fifth foal of Wembley, a winning daughter of Group I winner Game Face and half-sister to the dam of Group II winner Turnerloose.

The other top sellers for Not This Time on Tuesday were:

HIP 304 Not This Time x Delightful Joy $1,300,000 (colt) sold to Douglas Scharbauer

HIP 368 Not This Time x Josie (colt) $1,150,000 (colt) sold to Albaugh Family/Railbirds/West Point/St Elias

HIP 197 Not This Time x Twinkling $1,000,000 (filly) sold to Repole Stable

HIP 283 Not This Time x Clothes Fall Off $900,000 (colt) sold to Mayberry Farm

Hip 66 Not This Time x Classic Strike (colt) $1,400,000 sold to Kjell Andersen

Hip 121 Not This Time x Impazible Women (colt) $1,000,000 sold to Pin Oak Stud

Cogburn is true to type with many similarities to his sire Not This Time, who has produced 17 individual stakes-winners in 2025 headed by 3YO colt Troubleshooting, who won the Group I Kentucky Downs Franklin-Simpson Stakes last weekend.

His seasonal stats for 2025 back up the insatiable demand for his yearlings this year.

199 winners 66% W/R

17 Stakes winner 12.1% SW/R

9 Group winners 6.1% GW/R

Cogburn is standing at a fee of $27,500.
