One to Watch – Ballarat

Tara Madgwick - Friday September 19

So You Think has hit the ground running this spring and is currently the leading sire in the country by winners with an eye-catching six length debut winner at Ballarat on Friday adding to the tally.

Trained by Gavin Bedggood and ridden by Ethan Brown, four year-old mare Enamorada was heavily backed to be winning on debut and gave punters an easy watch.

She chimed in with 300m to run and galloped right away to win the 1200m maiden as she pleased in an utterly dominant display.

Gavin Bedggood expected to see something like that from Enamorada and can now plot a path forwards.

“She's shown above-average ability at home, and it was good to see her come to the races and put it all together today,” said Bedggood.

“I think 1200m is probably the bottom end of her wheelhouse, but it was good to see her drop her head and relax because she can be quite aggressive at home, so she's a typical So You Think filly, and it was good to see her come here and have a really good day out.”

Enamorada is a late starter through no fault of her own, but now it will be onwards and upwards for the talented mare.

“She had an injury in a stable at a previous home and she had a long time off the scene and came to me this preparation,” Bedggood added.

“She's been smooth sailing right the way through for me, so we’re very grateful for the ownership group to send her my way.”

A $270,000 Magic Millions purchase for Adrian Hall from the Edinburgh Park draft, Enamorada is a half-sister to HK trained Group III winner Patch of Theta and Group placed Yamashita’s Gold and Spoils.

Bred by Ian Smith, she is the fifth winner from seven foals to race from stakes-placed General Nediym mare Fortune of War, a daughter of blue hen Pretty Penny and sibling to Group winners Sertorius, Dollar for Dollar, Pretty Brazen, Pretty Amazing and Clifton Red.

The Pretty Penny clan have an uncanny knack for measuring up to Black Type company and Enamorada looks to have a very bright future.

Fortune of War was snapped up for $130,000 by WA based Darling View Thoroughbreds from the MM run Edinburgh Park Dispersal in 2023 and produced a filly last year by their young sire Splintex and is due to foal to champion WA sire Playing God.
