A monster set of trials at Canterbury on Tuesday morning featured six heats for juveniles with a plethora of unraced youngsters looking to get some experience as we head towards the $3million Magic Millions 2YO Classic next month and five of the six heat winners are eligible.
Fresh from siring a G1 winner last weekend in Libertad, Russian Revolution had the quickest heat winner here in the Waterhouse Bott trained filly Lumbini. She was second at her only previous trial last month to her stablemate Shiki, who win the G3 Gimcrack and she looked sharp and professional leading all the way to win.
A $450,000 Magic Millions purchase making her the highest priced yearling for her sire in 2025, Lumbini is from US G1 winner My Conquestadory (USA) and is a full sister to stakes-placed Russian Conquest, who was second in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
The Bjorn Baker trained Extreme Choice colt Paradoxium finished fourth in the Group III ATC Breeders’ Plate on debut and was having his second trial back this prep and produced another very stylish win that will have him full of confidence for race day.
Couple of well bred first time triallers in the placings from the Waller stable. Runner up Steel Will a Go Bloodstock homebred half-brother to dual G1 winner September Run and third placed Nation’s League a $1.7million Snitzel colt from imported stakes-winner Fashion Faux Pas (USA).
Paradoxium is the first foal of Paredo, a half-sister to the dam of Group I ATC The Galaxy winner Private Harry and it’s the same family as rising star WA filly Hot and High, winner of the Listed WATC Lee Steere Stakes last Saturday.
Blanket finish in this heat with I Am Invincible filly Born to Fly from the O’Shea Charlton stable taking the win at her first outing, while G3 Gimcrack place-getter Masvingo warmed up fast late for an impressive third at her second trial this prep.
Born to Fly is a half-sister to Group winning sprinters Eagle Nest and Kalashnikov and her dam has had four foals to race and all are winners with this girl shaping as number five.
First look at Written By filly By Choice, who did everything right as you expect of a Waterhouse Bott runner and finished off when asked to win over blue-blood I Am Invincible filly Fiaba, who showed abundant natural talent. Retained by Tyreel Stud, Fiaba is a half-sister to Everest winner Classique Legend.
The highest priced yearling sold at Magic Millions by her sire Written By at $220,000, By Choice is a half-sister to a pretty smart country trained metro winner in Harry’s Bar and is from a half-sister to Inglis Millennium winner Prime Star from Group I winner Barinka.
Attunga Stud will offer the half-sister by So You Think to By Choice as Lot 72 at MM 2026.
The second slowest of the six heats was won by Ole Kirk colt Elio, who was fourth on debut in the Max Lees Classic to Seeiaye and given a tick over trial here by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott. An Inglis Classic purchase, he led all the way under a hold from three well bred Magic Millions eligible colts that were all having a first look and not asked for a great deal.
The slowest heat was actually visually impressive with good looking Snitzel colt Campione D’Italia the least experienced of the four colts with the other three all stepping out for a second time. Trained by Chris Waller, he settled at the back and surged to the line under his own steam win by half a length.
A sibling to Group placed Flashing Steel and Snitzel Miss, Campione D’Italia is from a winning daughter of Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Military Rose and half-sister to the dam of slick Group winning 2YO Espionage, so he’s bred to get up and running sooner rather than later.
Baramul Stud will offer his half-brother by Zoustar as Lot 528 at MM 2026.
