Million Dollar Mares Make for a Hot Market

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday May 29
A stunning selection of racemares and fillies are lighting up the sale ring at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale on Tuesday with star mares Omei Sword and Abbey Marie both fetching seven figures as we get to mid afternoon.

Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock/ Freyer Bloodstock have bought the top two lots so far paying $1.7 million for Group II winning High Chaparral (IRE) mare Omei Sword (pictured above) consigned by Newgate Farm and $1.4 million for Group I winning Redoute's Choice mare Abbey Marie (pictured below) consigned by Segenhoe.

Other big results for star racemares have been:

$875,000 for Montoya's Secret bought by Coolmore

$850,000 for French Emotion bought by Widden Stud

$825,000 for Bonny O'Reilly bought by Jadeskye Racing, Samaco Racing

$600,000 for Harlow Gold bought by Steve Morley/ Glenlogan Park

$600,000 for Hell or Highwater bought by Woodside Park. Belmont Bloodstock

$600,000 for Imposing Lass bought by Laurel Oak Bloodstock

$575,000 for Danish Twist bought by Newgate Farm.

Notting HillNewgate Farm also bought minor winner Notting Hill for $950,000!

That may seem a lot for a two time winner at Kempsey and Muswellbrook, but Notting Hill is no stranger to the Gold Coast sale ring having made $1.4 million as a yearling at Magic Millions.

By leading Australian second crop sire Pierro, she is one of nine winners from stakes-placed Monsoon Wedding, who made $2.3 million at the Magic Millions Teeley Dispersal in 2014 when bought by Coolmore.

Monsoon Wedding is the dam of stakes-winners Precious Lorraine and Lucky Raquie and is a sibling to Group I winners Redoute's Choice, Manhattan Rain, Platinum Scissors.

This is of course the family of this season's triple Group I winner Shoals and her full brother that topped the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale when fetching $2.3 million

Now you can see whey Notting Hill might have been good buying at $950,000!

The sale continues.
