US Debut 2YO Winner for Aussie Speedster Houtzen

Tara Madgwick - Monday December 8

Magic Millions talk is everywhere as we head towards January and the winner of the MM 2YO Classic in 2017 was I Am Invincible filly Houtzen, who produced a debut winning juvenile in the US over the weekend.

Trained by Bob Baffert, two year-old Quality Road colt Greenwich Village was making his debut in the 6 ½ f maiden at Los Alamitos and produced a good effort for Juan Hernandez to win by half a length.

He took a split between runners mid race to take control, which proved a winning move for Greenwich Village.

Greenwich Village was a $350,000 Keeneland September Yearling purchase for SF Bloodstock/Starlight Racing/Madaket Stables and is the second foal to race and second winner for Houtzen.

Houtzen was sodl at the Keeneland November Breeding stock Sale for US$1.5million.

A Group III winner in Australia, Houtzen had three runs in the UK and Ireland in 2019 with her best effort a second in the Group II King George Stakes at Goodwood and was subsequently offered at the 2020 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale where she sold for $1.5million to Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings.

Houtzen has a yearling colt by Charlatan and weanling colt by boom sire Not This Time, so is not lacking for opportunity.

The Houtzen family crops up twice at Magic Millions 2026.

Lot 139 from Lime Country Thoroughbreds is a Snitzel colt from California Gallant, an unraced full sister to Houtzen.

Lot 1093 from Gooree Park Stud is a Russian Revolution filly from Lanyard, an unraced half-sister by So You Think to the dam of Houtzen.

I Am Invincible mares had already produced Group I winners Asfoora and Kimochi as well as this season’s stakes-winners Incognito, Dance to the Boom and Grand Prairie.
