$650,000 for Diatonic Filly from Snapdancer

Tara Madgwick - Friday January 16

Yulong have brought a stellar draft of horses to Magic Millions and they include first crop yearlings by high class Japanese sprinter miler Diatonic (Jpn), who was in the spotlight on Friday when his filly from Snapdancer sold for $650,000.

Yulong have supported Diatonic with an exceptional first book of mares that included Group I stars such as Melody Belle, Viddora, In Her Time, Winning Ways and of course Snapdancer.

A dual Group I winning sprinter of the MRC Memsie Stakes and SAJC Robert Sangster Stakes, Snapdancer earned over $2million in prizemoney and was purchased by Yulong for $3.2million at the 2023 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Snapdancer has pedigree to back up her race performance being by outstanding sire Choisir from a quality European female family with her dam by champion sire Galileo.

$650,000 Diatonic (Jpn) filly from Snapdancer.

The star filly is her first foal and was knocked down to Matt Laurie Racing/Willannah Park Bloodstock.

Laurie trains Yulong’s champion mare Treasurethe Moment and Group I winning colt Vinrock, who was acquired by Yulong at the end of his 2YO season.

“I’ve been really impressed with the Diatonic stock here. We bought one earlier (lot 714) that we really loved and this filly, again, we thought was a lovely bodied filly,” Laurie said.

“The mother was a star and we thought she was every bit of that price. We knew we’d have to pay for a good style of filly like her.”

The other Diatonic purchased by Laurie was the first foal of talented Frankel mare Hometruths (IRE) that he secured for $150,000.

They’re a little bit different. The first one we bought was out of a Frankel mare. She had a real Oaks look about her,” Laurie commented.

“This one is a lot sharper and bit different in that sense, but I’m really taken by both of them.”

The fillies are a savvy investment for the future given Snapdancer has a filly to follow by champion sire I Am Invincible and is now in foal to Yulong young gun Growing Empire, while Hometruths has a filly to follow by Panthalassa (Jpn) and is in foal to Alabama Express.
