Via Sistina Retired - Dubawi Her First Mating

Breednet - Sunday January 18

Chris Waller has announced the retirement of Champion mare Via Sistina after returning for her autumn campaign not “her normal highly energetic self”.

Via Sistina wins the 2024 Cox Plate by eight lengths. Phooto: Grant Courtney.

The Irish bred daughter of Fastnet Rock retires as the winner of 12 Group One races.

She was purchased by Yulong at the 2023 Tattersalls December Mares Sale for $2.7million guineas, having won the Group One Pretty Polly Stakes in Ireland.

She made a spectacular start to her Australian career, winning the Group I Ranvet Stakes at her first run and never won a race that wasn’t Group One level from that point, highlighted by her record breaking eight length win in the 2024 Cox Plate, a race she won again in 2025.

Yulong also announced she will return to the UK in the coming weeks for a mating with Dubawi.
