Respected MRC track manager Michael Suey has been appointed the Melbourne Racing Club’s Head of Racecourses, with track managers at Caulfield, Sandown and Mornington reporting to him.
A long-standing MRC employee, Suey played a central role in the improvement in the performance of MRC tracks during 2025, as the Club engaged outside consultants and agronomists to strengthen maintenance procedures and implement a new tracks strategy aligned with best-practice standards.
MRC Chief Executive Officer Tanya Fullarton said improving the performance of the Club’s racecourses has been a priority since she joined the organisation.
“Since I joined the Melbourne Racing Club, improving the performance of our tracks has been a clear priority,” Ms Fullarton said. “Our objective is to ensure MRC racecourses deliver among the best track surfaces in Australia, underpinned by strong internal leadership and external best-practice expertise.”
Following the 2025 Spring Carnival, an interim renovation was undertaken at Caulfield to support consistent performance through the 2026 racing season. A more substantial refurbishment of the Caulfield track is planned for after the 2026 Caulfield Cup, with the track targeted to re-open in early 2027.
A similar refurbishment program is planned for Sandown in late 2028, with Mornington to follow in 2029.
This program of works reflects the Melbourne Racing Club’s ongoing investment in its racecourses, with a focus on delivering consistently high-quality racing surfaces for industry participants, members and punters.
