Second Stakes Success for Granny Red Shoes

Granny Red Shoes will head for a spell after toying with the opposition in Saturday's Listed Winning Edge Presentations Stakes (1350m) at Doomben.

It was the second consecutive stakes win for the daughter of Not A Single doubt following a two-length victory in the Listed Oxlade Stakes at the Sunshine Coast on June 2.

In a relatively busy season, the Toby Edmonds-trained filly advances her overall record to 3 wins and 3 seconds from 8 starts with earnings of $184,515.


Given plenty of time to find her feet under Blake Shinn, Granny Red shoes lobbed along in last place before being set alight on the point of the turn.

She gathered in the leaders in the space of 100 metres and required little more than a hand-ride to defeat Soaring Heart (Show a Heart) by four and a quarter lengths with Light Up The Room (So You Think) a half-head back in third.

"That was a great win. She enjoyed being ridden quietly because they were going very quickly up front," Shinn said.

"Although I was back last, by a considerable margin, the punters, owners and Toby may have had their hearts in their mouths, but I was never worried because of the tempo.

"I just let her find her feet and come back underneath me. At the 500m I asked her and to be honest I got to the front way too early. We just coasted and enjoyed the ride that last little bit. She won with plenty in hand.

"I think she will get a mile because She is such a layback filly and still developing. She has a lovely fluent action and covers the ground even though she is quite small. We could be seeing her tackling the major carnivals in Sydney and Melbourne."

Toby Edmonds said he will wait until the owners get back from their trip to Royal Ascot before mapping out a programme for the spring.

"There is the option of going to Melbourne or Sydney for the spring. But she is also a Magic Millions horse so we can look at some of those million dollar races," Edmonds told AAP.

"There are a lot of ways we can go but most of her owners are in England for Royal Ascot so I will wait until they get back. But she is going to spelling paddock tomorrow."


Consigned by Cressfield Stud to the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Granny Red Shoes (pictured as a yearling) was knocked down to Segenhoe Thoroughbreds for $280,000.

She is the third foal and second winner out of the Listed ATC Keith Mackay Hcp winner Shoboard.

A daughter of Show a Heart, Shoboard was purchased by Cressfield for $320,000 off Southern Cross Breeders at the 2011 Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale.

Her dam Ten Eighty (Volksraad) is a sister to the Group 1 winner Star Satire the dam of Group II ATC Silver Slipper winner Satin Slipper (Flying Spur) and dual Group II winner and Group 1 NZ Oaks third Zarzuela (Zabeel).

A yearling filly by Deep Field out of Shoboard was snapped up by China Horse Club/Alan Bell Racing for $650,000 at this year's Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Shoboard has a weanling filly by All Too Hard and was covered by Deep Field last spring.
