One to Watch – Kembla

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday February 18

The famed colours of Sir Peter Vela’s Pencarrow Stud were in the winner’s circle at Kembla on Tuesday carried by a well bred daughter of Savabeel.

Trained by Chris Waller and ridden by Chad Schofield, three year-old filly Chispa was favourite for the 1300m maiden following a debut second at Newcastle at the start of the month.

She settled back in the field and hit the line hard, doing her best work late to win by half a length.

Chispa is a full sister to stakes-winner Waikato Girl and Group II placed Butter Chicken being the fifth winner from six foals to race from Group III winning Galileo mare Scintillula (IRE), a full sister to Group III winner Cuis Ghaire, the dam of Group I winning sprinter Danyah.

Both Waikato Girl and Butter Chicken are now at stud, so it’s a family that is very much a work in progress.

Shadow Hill Thoroughbreds will offer the second foal of Butter Chicken, a colt by Proisir at Inglis Premier as Lot 536.
