Miss Icelandic Another Inglis Digital Stakes Success Story

Tara Madgwick - Saturday February 28

Bought as a tried racemare through the 2024 Inglis Digital December Sale for $50,000, six year-old Deep Field mare Miss Icelandic scored her first stakes win on Friday night when leading all the way to win the $175,000 Listed Abell Stakes (1200m) at Cranbourne.

Trained by Matt Laurie and ridden by Patrick Moloney, Miss Icelandic belied the lack of interest from punters after mixing her form of late and coming to this race off a fifth placing in the Group III Mystic Journey Stakes in Tasmania.

She produced a career best performance to kick away turning for home and held her rivals at bay to win by a length.

Miss Icelandic was a $100,000 Inglis Weanling purchase from Edinburgh Park for Suman Hedge Bloodstock / Grant Bloodstock and became a pinhook winner for Silverdale Farm when they sold her at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale for $440,000 to Bahen Bloodstock Ltd / Matt Laurie Racing.

Miss Icelandic was a pinhook winner for Silverdale Farm selling for $440,000 at Inglis Premier.

She won six of her first 17 starts and was then offered through Inglis Digital where she was bought by John Noblett for $50,000 and remained with Matt Laurie.

She now has the overall record of eight wins and six placings from 27 starts with prizemoney topping $425,000.

The 44th stakes-winner for now pensioned Deep Field, Miss Icelandic is the best of two winners from Iceland Turf Belle, a half-sister by Duporth to stakes-winner Vinland.
