Time is on the wing as we head towards the $5million Group I ATC Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on March 21 with two new contenders emerged from the pack to secure their place after winning key lead up races last Saturday while previously unbeaten colts Warwoven and Fireball were underwhelming.
Trapeze Artist filly Spicy Miss cast off maiden status to win the Group II ATC Sweet Embrace Stakes in which race favourite Pembrey finished unplaced, while the favourite Warwoven also went down in the Group II ATC Skyline Stakes won by Campione D’Italia at odds of 40-1.
He beat a 10-1 first starter in Central Europe and Queensland visitor Star of Jamaica at 20-1, so is the form any good?
Campione D’Italia staged a form reversal after his lacklustre debut when he was last in the Listed ATC Lonhro Plate won by Agrarian Girl after doing plenty wrong.
Central Europe probably should have won the race and appears at number 38 in the order of entry, but will need to win his next start in the Group III ATC Pago Pago to make the field.
The Golden Slipper picture is still very unclear as we head to the G2 Todman and Reisling Stakes at Rosehill this Saturday where will get another look at Stretan Ruler, who dominated the G2 Silver Slipper, can he do it again?
