Blue Blood Breaks Through

Mark Smith - Thursday July 19

As the final foal of Waikato stud's blue hen Escada, Pink Graffiti carried some pretty high expectations.

After five consecutive seconds, the 3-year-old Ocean Park filly broke her maiden over 1200 metres at Hastings on Thursday.

Settled midfield by Bridget Grylls, Pink Graffiti mounted a challenge 300 metres out.

Under a minimum of urging, Pink Graffiti came two and a quarter length clear of Goldilicious (Helmet) with Mr Axle (Zed) a long-neck back in third.

The Waikato homebred is the 13th named foal of the stakes-placed Centaine mare Escada who was 21 when she foaled the daughter of Ocean Park.

Escada is best known as being the dam of Group 1 AJC Doncaster Hcp and Group 1 STC George Ryder Stakes winner Vision and Power (Carnegie); Group 1 VRC Salinger Stakes, Group 1 SAJC Goodwood Hcp and Group II VRC Age Classic Stakes winner Glamour Puss (Tale Of The Cat); Group II AJC Stan Fox Stakes winner Rare Insight (O'Reilly) and Listed stakes-winner Escadaire (O'Reilly).

The next generation is already putting the runs on the board with Rare Insight producing the Group 1 Coolmore Classic winner Steps In Time (Danehill Dancer) (photo Mark Smith ) while Glamour Puss is the dam of the stakes-placed Beckham (Pins) and Ngarimu (Savabeel).

Escada's daughter Pretty (Pins) is the dam of Bjorn Baker's stakes-winning filly Bonny O'Reilly (O'Reilly) who was recently purchased by Jadeskye Racing, Samaco Racing for $825,000 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Another daughter of Escada, Oh So Glam (O'Reilly), is the dam of Chris Waller's consistent gelding Torgersen (Pins) who has placed in the Group II ATC Tulloch Stakes, Group III Bill Ritchie Hcp and Group III ATC Frank Packer Plate.
