Jameka Covered by Impending

Tara Madgwick - Monday October 8
Caulfield Cup winner Jameka was a sale ring star earlier this year when bought back by part-owner Colin McKenna for $2,6 million at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale and is now on the way to motherhood after being retired.

Impending She was covered last week by Lonhro's dual Group I winning son Impending, which stands at Northwood Park in Seymour for Darley.

Owner Colin McKenna told the Warrnambool Standard he was excited with the mating of his star mare and Impending.

"Impending raced in the top company, winning five of his 18 starts including Group 1 races," McKenna said.

"I'm confident he'll develop into a top stallion.

"Impending is a magnificent athletic-looking stallion he has a real presence about him. Impending is extremely well bred, being by Lonhro.

"He's the highest-rated son of Lonhro standing stud in Victoria."

He was the first three-year-old in a decade to win the Group I Stradbroke Handicap and will seek to follow in the footsteps of Lonhro's brilliant sire son Pierro, the Champion First and Second Season Sire of his generation.

"We were mindful with the mating that we wanted a bit of speed into the breeding, as Jameka's performances in staying races were outstanding and I feel Impending fits the bill to offer speed into the progeny," he added.

Impending stands at a fee of $22,000.
