Karaka Star Beauty Generation Wins G2 Jockey Club Mile

Select Sale graduate Beauty Generation (NZ) (Road to Rock) has carried on his unstoppable form, treating the Sha Tin crowd to another sparkling performance in Sunday's HK$4,25 million Group 2 BOCHK Wealth Management Jockey Club Mile.

Beauty Generation is best known as a front-runner, but on Sunday his regular rider Zac Purton wanted no part of an intense early speed duel.

They ran the first half mile (800 metres) ridiculously fast and I was happy to let them burn themselves out and then to roll forward around them when they backed it off," he said.

Beauty Generation took command in the home straight, charging to victory by three lengths in a track-record time of 1:32.64.

Caspar Fownes, the trainer of the runner-up Southern Legend, was in awe of the winner.

"The winner is absolutely incredible," said Fownes, "to shatter a record like that – and to do it the way he did, drifting out like that. He did it the hard way. He's becoming Winx-like and in a different league to these horses he's beaten today."

Beauty Generation's trainer John Moore hopes his stable star will receive the international accolades he deserves.

"He had to make two runs out there after it was like the charge of the Light Brigade early," he said. "People around the world now will stand up and take notice that there is a very good miler here in Hong Kong."

Beauty Generation has now won 12 of his 25 starts, with three Group 1 wins, three Group 2 wins and two Group 3s to his name.
