Frankel Blueblood Breaks His Maiden at the Sunshine Coast

Strawberry Hill Stud's John Singleton has been an enthusiastic supporter of Juddmonte Farm's undefeated champion Frankel and he has been rewarded in the sales ring with the $1,600,000 colt Merovee and the $500,000 colt Frankel Star who broke his maiden over 1400 metres at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.

It was the second start for the Garry Newham-trained 3yo colt who was fifth on debut at Beaudesert a fortnight back.

Ridden by Robbie Fraad, Frankel Star tracked the early leader Clairvue Spirit before taking control at the point of the turn.

He came under immediate attack from Iampaidfor who looked to get a good neck in front before Frankel Star rallied to win by a neck with Aavaara a nose back in third.


Purchased by Dermot Farrington on behalf of Paul Makin for $500,000 at the 2017 Inglis Easter Yearling Sales, Frankel Star (pictured as a yearling ) is a half-brother to Group 1 Vinery Stakes winner Fenway (High Chaparral) and Blue Gum Farm's Group III ATC Up And Coming Stakes winner War (More Than Ready).

They are out of the Zabeel mare Deedra who is a half-sister to 4-time Group 1 winner Tuesday Joy and Group 1 AJC Australian Oaks winner Sunday Joy, the dam of the 8-time Group 1 winner More Joyous.

Interestingly, Deedra's unraced daughter This Time Bridie (More Than Ready), who is a sister to War and a three-quarter sister to More Joyous, made the trip to England alongside the champion Samantha Miss on August 8 to visit Frankel.

Samantha Miss is the dam of Singleton's highly promising Frankel filly Miss Fabulass who won the Group II ATC Tea Rose Stakes at Randwick back in September before finishing fourth in the Group 1 Flight Stakes.

The first foal of More Joyous is the Frankel filly Women who has not been seen out since winning at Canterbury in September last year.
