Ready to Run Graduate Wins Gold Cup

Media Release - Monday December 31

The 2013 Ready to Run Sale Graduate Davinci (NZ) (Mastercraftsman) picked up his eighth and most significant win in Sunday's RM350,000 Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Gold Cup (2000m) at Penang.

Davinci as a yearlingThe seven-year-old produced an impressive performance. After racing in midfield for most of the middle-distance event, he was squeezed back to near last approaching the home turn.

But jockey Harmeet Singh Gill angled Davinci to the outside at the top of the straight and he produced an irresistible finishing burst, getting up to win by a short head.

Trained by Kevin Coetzee, Davinci has now had 46 starts for eight wins, 11 placings and the equivalent of more than NZ$300,000 in prizemoney – six times his purchase price at the Ready to Run Sale at Karaka in 2013.

Bred by Windsor Park Stud Ltd, Davinci is a half-brother to the Group 1 New Zealand Derby (2400m) winnerMilitary Move(NZ) (Volksraad).

Initially offered at the Premier Sale, where he was passed in, Davinci returned for the Ready to Run Sale later that year and was purchased by Mr NC Chan.
